Responsible Gambling

1. Our position

PunterPick publishes football analysis, and we would rather publish it honestly than profitably. Betting is a form of paid entertainment with a negative expected return for almost everyone who does it. It is not an investment, not a side income and not a route out of financial difficulty.

If you bet, bet small, bet money you have already decided you can lose, and stop when it stops being fun.

2. Gambling is not an income

The mathematics are not ambiguous. Bookmaker prices contain a margin, which means that over a long enough period the average bettor loses money. A model that is genuinely good shifts the odds slightly in your favour; it does not turn a losing proposition into a salary.

Anyone who promises guaranteed profit, a can’t-lose system or a fixed match is either mistaken or lying to you. We publish no such claims and we ask you to distrust anyone who does.

3. Warning signs

Consider stopping and seeking support if you recognise any of the following: betting more than you planned; betting to recover losses; borrowing money, selling possessions or using money meant for bills in order to bet; hiding your betting from people close to you; feeling anxious, irritable or low when you cannot bet; losing interest in things you used to enjoy; lying about how much you have staked; betting to escape stress, loneliness or low mood; or continuing to bet despite it damaging your work, studies or relationships.

None of these mean you have failed. They mean a habit has begun to take control, and that is a common and treatable problem.

4. Practical limits that help

Decide your budget before you start, not while you are losing. Set deposit, loss and time limits with your operator and choose limits you would still accept on a bad day. Never chase a loss. Do not bet while drinking, while upset or late at night. Keep a written record of what you actually staked and lost, because memory reliably flatters. Take regular breaks, and treat any win as an unexpected bonus rather than as income you can rely on.

5. Blocking and self-exclusion tools

Most licensed operators must offer self-exclusion, deposit limits and cooling-off periods on request. National self-exclusion schemes let you block yourself from many operators at once, and GAMSTOP performs this function for online operators licensed in Great Britain.

Bank-level gambling blocks are offered by many banks, and independent blocking software such as Gamban or BetBlocker can restrict gambling sites and applications across your devices.

6. Where to get free, confidential help

The following organisations are independent of PunterPick, provide support free of charge and are not paid by us.

GamCare and the National Gambling Helpline offer free confidential support in the United Kingdom, 24 hours a day, on 0808 8020 133, and online at gamcare.org.uk. BeGambleAware provides advice and self-assessment tools at begambleaware.org. Gambling Therapy offers free multilingual online support worldwide at gamblingtherapy.org. Gamblers Anonymous runs peer support meetings internationally, listed at gamblersanonymous.org.

If you are in immediate crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself, contact your local emergency services straight away.

7. Strictly 18+

The Service is for adults only. You must be at least 18, or older where local law requires it, to use it. Underage gambling is illegal and harmful, and we do not knowingly permit it.

If you share a device with a young person, consider parental control software that blocks gambling-related content.

8. When it is someone else’s gambling

Gambling harm affects families, partners and friends, not only the person betting. Support is available for affected others too: GamCare, Gambling Therapy and Gam-Anon all provide help specifically for people close to someone with a gambling problem.

You are not responsible for another adult’s betting, and you are allowed to protect your own finances and wellbeing.

9. What we do on this site

We publish probabilities rather than certainties, and we say plainly when a selection loses. We do not publish invented hit rates, profit claims or return-on-investment figures, and where we lack data we show an empty state instead of a number.

We do not offer betting facilities, we do not take stakes, we do not sell tips and we do not pressure anyone to bet. Where advertising appears, it is labelled as advertising.
